Where we do it

Peat can form anywhere in the world that possesses suitable climatic conditions. Generally speaking, it has to be cool and wet, so many of the sites we have worked on tend to be at higher latitudes. There are, however, tropical peatlands – we just haven’t had the good fortune to visit these yet! The vast majority of the worlds peatlands occur in the boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere but, increasingly, the importance of peatlands in the Southern Hemisphere are being recognised.

As bogologists, we have been lucky enough to visit many different regions, all over the world and the map below shows a few of these regions. Click here to find out more about our research and the peatlands of North AmericaSouth AmericaEuropeNew Zealand and Antarctica.
